He's suave, charming, one of television's "good boys" and has a smile to kill for. And now Aman Yatan Verma will be touring the country to identify singing talents.

The anchor-actor, who made doors of fortune open for thousands of participants in the popular game show "Khulja Sim Sim", will identify talents to come up with the "Indian Idol".

Sony has launched "Indian Idol", a take off on the immensely popular British show "Pop Idol", which premiered three years ago.

"Indian Idol" is scheduled to go on air this month and continue till October.

Aman would be touring 10 cities in India along with the judges of the show, choreographer Farah Khan, music composer Anu Malik and singer Sonu Nigam, to scout for singers.

"Apart from the obvious responsibility of anchoring the show, I'll be contributing to it in terms of inputs or suggestions as and when required. As of now, I'll go with the crew to the cities for auditions," said Aman.

Those who pass the auditions will then be further screened for the final 30 aspirants, out of whom one "singing sensation who will make the nation sing" will be selected, based on audience's choice.

Aman himself confesses to be just "a bathroom singer".

"I have watched the other take-off 'American Idol', and I think the role of the anchor is to help the contestants, who come from all walks and strata of life, to shed their inhibitions, gain a bit of confidence and put their best foot forward in front of the jury. The anchor has to be the middle guy between the participants and the judges and do his job well," he noted.

It wasn't tough for the channel heads to look far for their host as Aman fits the bill of a "dependable guy who can put the nervous contestants at ease with his simple banter, without hurting anybody's sentiments".

He also can think on his feet -- as has been evident in the various live shows he's hosted -- and is still the guy next door.

Aman is sure the show will work in India "because our country is a huge treasure trove of talents and this is one chance for them to prove themselves without any mentor".

As for Aman, "Indian Idol" is going to be one of his exciting and challenging projects and he assures he's going to make the most out of it.
