Movie Review : Jana (2004)

Producer: Roja Combines
Director: Shaji Kailas
Music: Dhina
Cast: Ajit, Sneha, Raghuvaran, Siddique

After a miserable show in Anjaneya in which he played the character of a honest policeman, Ajith has come out with Jana. In the film which bears resemblance to Rajnikanth's Basha, Ajith plays the role of a Mumbai gangster, who wants to rid the society of all crimes.

Donning an action-packed role, the actor seems to have done justice to his role. However, having seen Rajnikanth perform a similar role in Basha, the audience may end up disappointed .

Actress Sneha acts opposite Ajith. The movie has a long list of villains, who fight whenever they appear on screen. The list includes Radharavi, Babu Raj, Siddiq and Riyaz Khan.

The movie begins in a remote village Thamaraipadi, where Ajith renders service for village. Sneha, daughter of Radharavi, comes from Mumbai for her vacation. She falls in love with Ajith and returns to Mumbai with his photograph. She eventually comes to know about his past life.

Quite similar to Amitabh in Shaenshah, Ajith goes allout to wage a battle against gangsters and criminals. He incurs the wrath of an antisocial Siddiq, who kills his mother Sri Vidya and his brother Manoj K Jayan.

This forces him to reach Tamilnadu with his father Raghuvaran, to lead a peaceful life. Troubles do not end for him there. The villain and his associates reach the village and pick up a fight with him.

Ajith seems to have relished playing such a role which has fiery dialogues boasting the hero. Music director Dina, who composed the hit song Manmadharasa, fails miserably in his attempt to render catchy tunes. The highlight of the movie has been good stunts by Peter Hayen and Kanal Kannan.

The movie is directed by Shaji Kailash and produced by Khaja Mydeen.
